A Glimpse Into Knightdale's Past
While modern Knightdale has plenty of new stores, restaurants, and parks to offer Triangle home buyers, it is also a town with a rich history.
Originally settled in 1730, the town now known as Knightdale began as a small community near the Neuse River.
It remained small through the 19th century and was only a crossroads served by a post office.
Towards the end of the 1800's residents realized the need to establish a town. Henry Haywood Knight got the attention of railroad companies by donating some of his area land holdings to the Norfolk and Southern Railroad Company.
Though Knight didn't live to see it, the railroad did come to the community in 1904. This brought railroad families and growth to the community. In March of 1927, Knightdale incorporated and became a town.
Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, a number of subdivisions were built, and the town's population quickly grew. Knightdale became the 7th fastest growing town in the state.
